Or you may find it more cost-effective to send your books directly to Kirtas, and have us present you with finished text-searchable PDF files.

Or you may choose to capture your content yourself, and use Kirtas to process the raw files remotely.

But usually it starts with a conversation with your sales consultant, to find out the best output format for your needs.

Then you just create an inventory list and ship it along with your books to our Service Bureau.

We'll scan the books' bar code, enter it in our proprietary inventory tracking system, and capture the content using our APT BookScan systems.

As the books are digitized, the raw files are saved to a repository from which our image technicians access it.

Quality Control

Next, in the quality control phase, processing templates are designed using Kirtas BookScan Editor™ software, based on your specifications.

Stained or discolored page backgrounds are restored to their clear original luster.

Dirt and specs are removed.  Pages are cropped and margins are made consistent.

Text edges are sharpened while illustrations and photographs are segmented so as not to alter the subtle tones and details.

The text achieves a level of clarity and readability it may not have had for centuries.

Quality Assurance

And once the image technician is satisfied that all factors have been
accounted for?

Then the book’s page images are batch processed.  In the Quality Assurance phase, the image technician uses our BSE software to randomly select a specified number of pages for inspection. Each flaw or inconsistency is addressed before the book moves on to the next step.

After that, the next step might be OCR conversion with our BSE PRO’s powerful ABBYY Fine Reader&trade OCR engine.

Or the image technician may convert the page images to
whatever format is specified, and ship that file and the original document back to the client.
